One key design and architectural trend you see from Europe taking place in Australia is the “statement piece” or prominence of the kitchen rangehood.
You only have to go back several years to see the rangehood (even in award winning developments) usually being placed as an “add-on” and looking “odd” in many design instances. Top appliance manufacturers have really turned this on its head, making it often a notable centre piece in any beautiful kitchen design.
Traditionally if cooking in a corner, fume extraction is quite easy. However, if you have a beautiful stovetop, oven and rangehood in the centre of a kitchen – the reality is that it needs the power to remove the cooking fumes, be silent enough and provide the aesthetic value.
We have found that consumers generally fit into two camps here:
– One enjoying the centre piece impact of a rangehood
– One having most of it disappear into the roof or bench cabinetry
A common one which we recommend to many architects & designers is the Paradigma. It’s beautiful, quiet, sits in the ceiling, provides excellent illumination and it looks the part.
These rangehoods can really help the kitchen form the nucleus of a home and can start conversations right through to setting the subconscious tone of quality in any modern floor plan.
